Why The Hub?

In 2024, the cities of Jordan, Shakopee, Prior Lake, Savage, Chaska and Chanhassen lost their local newspapers with the closure of Southwest News Media. Jordan has a history of being “The Hub City”. The Hub is also the center of activity and we hope for The Hub to be a central source of news for the southwest metro of Minneapolis -St. Paul.

It’s no secret that across the nation local newspapers are struggling to stay afloat. It’s not clear what the sustainable model for local news in small communities will be, but the need for local coverage of elections, public meetings, civic clubs and other local news and events is a public good we cannot afford to lose.

The Hub News is a non-profit digital news and information site committed to informing the citizens of Shakopee, Jordan and the southwest suburbs of Minneapolis through multimedia content.

How will The Hub finance operations? The Hub News is now offering individual subscriptions that will allow access to subscriber only content, the ability to comment on posts, and access to The Hub archives. In the future we hope to offer additional subscriber benefits.

We are also seeking area businesses to be founding sponsors of The Hub News. This support will allow us to fund our start-up costs and begin expanding our coverage. There are several sponsorship levels available that come with unique ways to reach our audience.
